Is Intelligender for Real?

This morning I took the Intelligender Boy or Girl Gender Prediction Test (G.P.T.) . I had also taken it with Lincoln. The test claims that it can react hormones in urine with chemicals in the test to elicit a color specific reaction based on the gender of the baby. Green for boy and orange for girl. Even though I want to keep this baby's gender a secret until the delivery, I was curious about the accuracy of this test on a second pregnancy. With Lincoln the test clearly turned dark green at 10 weeks. Now, pregnant again at 12 weeks, I wanted to know what it would say. I really hesitated this time because even though it has a disclaimer that says it's just for fun, part of me didn't want any hints. But, at the same time, I've already been playing midwives tales games. Since I'm not aware of the medical way this test works, it seemed like little more than just another game to play.

This is the result from this morning's test. It clearly reads "Boy". Though I saw Lincoln's test picture too and I realize this countertop is NOT a white surface. It does tell you to place it on a white surface. User negligence... oops. But, I've already been predicting a boy based on the date of conception. I know this baby was conceived on the date of ovulation. So the stats already WAY outweigh boy over girl.

After we got to work, I went back to Intelligender's website and read a little more. Again, not exactly an evidence-based research study conducted under peer review or anything, but there are reports that Mexico and Australia conducted their own accuracy studies before releasing this product for sale in their countries and they each independently came up with accuracies of almost 90%!!

So why if it is SO accurate isn't this more used? I can easily understand one of the biggest reasons - and one of the reasons this product isn't sold in China or India - Gender Selection. A HUGE issue in our world where people selective abort a fetus based on gender alone. It would happen. So sad. But, assuming people are happy no matter what and it's taken just for fun, is it something you would do or do you want to wait for the 20 week ultrasound to visually find out? OR, as I've been told, now there is a BLOOD test that can confirm gender as early at 10 weeks. Is that something you feel is worth it? Would you want to know that soon without being able to see it for sure?

What is the hype about NEEDING to know gender anyway? I know for my first pregnancy, my biggest concern was Autism. I felt I NEEDED to know so that I could prepare myself and make sure I did EVERYTHING I could to prevent it. But, really, I wouldn't handle my pregnancy any differently if my son had been a girl. I still would have done the very best I could do have a healthy pregnancy. So.... why did I want to know so bad?

My husband's mom had 5 boys, 0 girls. She has 11 grandkids; 8 grandsons, 3 granddaughters (and likely 9 grandsons ;-)). I suppose we "want" a girl because it is considered balanced. Man, woman, son, daughter... quit while you're ahead? My husband already has 2 sons. Lincoln is a "mommy's boy"... does he want a "daddy's girl"? After having my son, battling depression, fearing for his neurological health, and deciding I wanted to have more kids, I had to come to some sort of peace with my gender battles. I spent a lot of time praying to God and searching for acceptance. I finally realized I had to give it all to Him and trust in His plan for me. This time, I saw that pregnancy test turn positive and I didn't see "boy" or "girl", I saw my son becoming a Big Brother. I can't wait to see him hold the baby, show the baby his toys, kiss the baby, even cry about the baby getting my attention because I love his emotional experiences and his growth. I can't wait until they're older and they play together. Crashing cars, building towers, playing in tents, sitting together on the couch sooo excited to watch a movie any moment. I've always seen two little boys playing, but we won't know for sure until September!!

I think this test only makes me see two boys even more because after one successful result I'm inclined to trust its result a second time.... not sure why, but why not?

(This was Lincoln's test result. CLEARLY dark green)

I purchased Intelligender's Gender Prediction Test on my own during my pregnancies. I have no relationship with the company Intelligender. All opinions are my own and all results were read by me with no input from the company.
